Let's hope this works out. by SpookyPizzaSpookyPizza, 25 Mar 2017 12:05

Oh. Is this still an issue? If it is let me know and I will look into it.

Re: Connection Problems by Varren ErelimVarren Erelim, 24 Feb 2017 13:16

I'm trying to reconnect after quite some time, but it seems my nickname is not registered.
Also, if I try to re-register my nickname, NickServ rejects the password I always used.
Does anybody know why?

Connection Problems by Miki BrockMiki Brock, 12 Feb 2017 20:59

(In the future I also recommend dragging this file up in chat for review as the site is seldom checked at this moment in time. Regardless, sorry for the delay.)

The primary issue I would like to address would be how brief the background is.
If you find yourself unsure of what to write, there are numerous details you can add, such as:

- Country of birth
- Depending on the country, any language/accent/dialect quirks can also be added1 (are they a native English speaker? Is English a secondary, maybe even tertiary language?).

- What kind of relationship did he have with his family? Was he an only child; and elder brother; a younger brother? Did he have both parents; Only one parent? Or perhaps he never knew his parents and was raised by other members of his biological family! There are a lot of options you can get really creative with.

- What was he like academically? Was he of the hardworking sort: brainy as all hell — or maybe he was more of the physical sort in his youth: favouring sports and having a competitive nature.

- Did anything notable happen while he worked on the force? Was he subject to serious injury at all, anything that would leave a defining mark on his appearance - something with its own story behind it. (Because personally, I can imagine that working on the force has its risks and nobody goes through several years unscathed).

- How did he come to join the UIU? I would imagine that given its status, it's probably not the easiest thing to join. Was he approached? (To be fair I don't know all that much about the UIU, gimmie time to research) It's a branch of the FBI - let's assume you'd need to have some kind of reputation to get inducted into that.

- 'Dangerous anomalous artefact' While I have no intentions of being harsh, I must be honest: this sounds like an attempt to add more bulk to the backstory/a bit of a poorly crafted reason for being inducted to the Foundation. The reasoning doesn't have to be special, and in fact, it's very easy to believe that someone from the UIU would be taken on by the Foundation simply for being in the UIU.
That being said, this 'anomalous artefact' hasn't been detailed on: where even was this artefact? When did this happen? Why did it do these things that it did to Dr Renner? (As a personal recommendation I would steer away from anomalous influence caused by anomalies: it's a complicated process to detail on specific things, and crosslinking isn't looked upon in the most favourable way).
Hell, he doesn't even have to have been brought into the Foundation, and could still just as easily be working for the UIU! (Though it's not like I'm gonna stop you from having him be in the Foundation, it's just something to consider).

In regards to personality stuff, well…whatever becomes of the background can shape what his personality becomes :P

1st character crit by KedrioKedrio, 01 Nov 2016 11:12

Ladies and gentlemen of the foundation, I present onto you a campaign of mass proportion - I present to you our beginnings: The Summit at Site-19.

(Most) of those involved have already been briefed on what is to happen, but for those of you who wish to know, information can be found here.

And, along with this, there will be set rules to follow - while there are a few humorous notes throughout this I would also expect it to be taken seriously.

These rules can be found here.

While times are still to be finalised I hope for this campaign to launch on the 29th of October. Time will be measured by GMT standards (due to convenience).

EDIT: Due to certain arising circumstances, the scheduled date for the run has been pushed back. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Mikibrock's character by Miki BrockMiki Brock, 06 Sep 2016 10:51

Yeah, Karma already hopped up already, this might be a problem for someone else and I think it. Would be good to discuss it though just in case.

EDIT:
Now I am unable to get in the chat. That's just great.

I do not think karma should dictate whether you can post or not. That would be very strange.
However I will check to see if anything in the system is the cause of this. Apologies for the inconvenience. In the mean time, if you require critique but are unable to post links, hop by our IRC chat at #scp-rp-ooc

Site requires at least 1 level of karma to post links and I have none of it. Any suggestions on how to fix that issue? I've spent several hours working on my character and now I am unable to post it for criticism. Any attempts of help are highly appreciated.

A unanimous decision has been reached, both by administrators and members of the community alike, to erase our current story-line and start from the ground up - to have a fresh start on things.
Why?
Check out Aiden EldritchAiden Eldritch's essay on the matter.

He has brought up some incredibly valid points, which everyone else (including myself) agree with.

Now, my own two cents on the matter is that there was also an awful lot of diversion and fluctuations from our intentions and what has already been set (i.e like character personalities. I myself have been the absolute worst at this part)
Now is a time to correct ourselves in that regard and get our ideas and intentions straight, so we aren't going all over the place, wildly out of control.

With these things in mind we hope to build a better canon while keeping the same characters, and we hope to keep it as enjoyable as possible for the community we are slowly building.

Fellow Admins, you are welcome to add to this post/correct us on anything by editing the main bulk.
